A special celebration of nature, culture and the Hinchinbrook Way

The Nywaigi Peoples openly invite locals and visitors to come to the award winning Mungalla Station for a celebration of nature, culture and the Hinchinbrook Way at the inaugural event; On Country, This Saturday 22 September from 10am to 4pm.

On Country, is a free event featuring lots of activities perfect for families. The event also brings together some of Hinchinbrook’s most unique and renowned cultural activities and experiences. These include: free live indigenous music, a diversity of local Hinchinbrook market stalls, interpretative wetlands and native plant tours, kuppmurri lunch, interpretative cultural tours, boomerang throwing competitions, Girringun plant nursery, Girringun Aboriginal Rangers, Girringun artist displays, helicopter rides, face painting, cart rides and kids activities.

Food & Drink

A range of local foods and drink will be available on the day, including the iconic Mungalla Station Kuppmurri lunch.

Kuppmurri Lunch

The Kuppmurri Lunch features a range of local Hinchinbrook produce, including Hinchinbrook's very own Bellasato Heritage Breed Sommerlad Chickens and Jourama Farms Gourmet Mushrooms cooked in a traditional underground style. On the menu will be: A selection of Kuppmurri cooked pork, corned beef, Bellasato Chicken, Jourama Farms Gourmet Mushrooms, a selection of root vegetables served with rice and gravy. Lunch will be served from 12pm -2pm. A selection of non-alcholic beverages will be available for purchase.

We strongly recommend booking your Kuppmurri lunch; however booking may be available on the day.

There will be two unique tours running throughout the day.

Interpretative Wetlands and Native Plants Tour

The One hour Interpretative Wetlands and Native Plants Tour will run hourly from Mungalla Station. The tour showcases Mungalla Station’s acclaimed work with Greening Australia’s Reef Aid project in restoring the Mungalla Wetlands and educating the public on the importance of the wetlands. There will be an opportunity for people to purchase a plant from the Girringun Native Plant Nursery before departing on the tour and then planting it during the tour of the Mungalla Wetlands. Tickets for the tour cost $15 per Adult and $5 for Children under 14. Tickets can be purchased on the day or pre-purchased from www.townsvilletickets.com.au.

Tours will be departing from the Mungalla Homestead at 10:30am, 11:30am, 12:30am, 1:30pm, 2:30pm and last tour at 3:00pm

Captive Lives Tour

There will also be hourly tours through the Mungalla Station Homestead to experience the amazing Captive Lives Exhibition. Tickets can be purchased on the day or pre-purchased from www.townsvilletickets.com.au.

Tours will be departing from the Mungalla Homestead at 10:30am, 11:30am, 12:30am, 1:30pm, 2:30pm and last tour at 3:00pm

Hinchinbrook Market Stalls

A large selection of Hinchinbrook market stalls will feature at On Country, showcasing the regions handmade crafts, artisan wares and local produce.

Family Activities

A range of family activities will feature throughout the day including: face painting, First Five Forever reading, TYTO art and craft activities, boomerang throwing competitions and rides on the historic Mungalla Station Cart.

Live Indigenous Music and Dance

Head to the main stage and be entertained throughout the day with live indigenous music and dance.

Helicopter Rides

Get airborne with Hinchinbrook Adventures and see the incredible Mungalla Wetlands and surrounding coastline of Forrest Beach! Prices will be posted soon.
